I'm a preservice teacher beginning my teaching career

You're close to graduation and preparing for a long and rewarding teaching career.

The first step for every aspiring teacher is to submit an application in our teacher recruitment pool. Although being in this pool doesn't guarantee employment, it does mean you can be considered for upcoming positions as they arise.

We accept applications all year.

However, we recommend graduates lodge your application as early as possible in the year you are completing your qualification. This ensures you can be considered for early offers of employment.

If you've graduated or you're in your final year of study, follow these steps to apply.

  • Step 1
Submit your application for teacher employment (mandatory)

Download and complete the application form

In addition to the completed application form, you’ll need to provide the following supporting documentation:

    • Formal qualification/s
    • Academic transcript (if you haven’t graduated yet, please provide a copy of your unofficial academic transcript)
    • Identification documents – i.e. birth certificate or passport and if applicable, working visa, marriage or change of name certificate
    • Evidence of Queensland teacher registration, or submission of application for teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers
    • Statements of service and/or verifiable teaching experience (if relevant).

Please submit your completed application form and supporting documentation via the online application form below.

Please note: We cannot process your application until you have provided all required information.

  • Step 2
Apply for teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) (mandatory)

All teachers in Queensland state and non-state schools must hold teacher registration with the QCT. We'll ask for your registration number on our application form.

If you don’t yet have teacher registration, please provide us with evidence that you have submitted your application for registration to the QCT.

Please note: You will need to provide confirmation of your teacher registration number before you can commence employment.

  • Step 3
    Consider relevant opportunities

Our teacher application team will review your application when it is submitted.

If you have submitted all the required information and supporting documentation, you will receive a confirmation email.

If you haven’t submitted all the required details, they will confirm the additional information required and will be unable to process your application until this is received.

When your application has been processed, you will receive an email which will provide you with your identification number, which will become your employee ID, so keep it somewhere safe. Your details will be provided to Principals and recruitment teams as vacancies become available.

You are unable to commence employment in a Queensland state school until you have completed your teaching qualification and have teacher registration with the QCT.

If you selected ‘casual’ in your employment preferences, our TRACER team will also get in touch with you to complete your TRACER profile, and provide you with further details about casual opportunities.

You can also be proactive in your job search and expand the number of opportunities available to you by:

    • expanding your location preferences to include other geographic areas so you can be considered by more schools with vacancies
    • following Teach Queensland on social media as we regularly highlight interesting opportunities for teachers
    • setting up a job alert on the Queensland Government SmartJobs website. While the majority of roles are filled through our teacher recruitment pool, from time to time, we advertise a range of teaching vacancies and you can also apply directly for these roles
    • attending our next career fair to connect with regional recruiters about current and future opportunities in their schools
    • networking with schools of interest—check out the interactive map of our schools across Queensland through the schools directory.

I'm an experienced teacher / returning to teaching

Experienced teachers can apply for teacher employment with us at any time throughout the year. Although being in this pool doesn't guarantee employment, it does mean you can be considered for upcoming positions as they arise.

*If you're from interstate or overseas and are still pondering whether a move here is right for you before making the move, you can learn more about teaching in Queensland on our relocating to Queensland page.
